“Joseph’s coat of many colors had nothing on this unique quilt which is now being completed by Mrs. Ethel Sampson of Evanston, Ill., after six years of collecting. Parts of wearing apparel from President Roosevelt, Mrs. Roosevelt, members of the Cabinet, diplomats and notables from all over. From Hollywood, Bing Crosby sent a tie while Mae West and Shirley Temple contributed parts of dresses. Former Emperor Haile Selassie’s neckties and a linen of Windsor are also included on the quilt. Diapers from the Dionne Quintuplets are also prominently displayed.” Harris & Ewing glass negative.

“Companion photo to one already posted from an unknown air base in England during WWII. It was apparently taken at the same time. It’s hard to miss FW190 tail. Dad had “Snuffy” painted on his jacket. I never heard him mention this nickname.” by
“The note on the back says “Mrs. Conant & the boys at the Chelsea Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Mass. Mrs. C. drawing a quick pencil sketch of a wounded Marine or sailor recuperating therein. - from a letter postmarked Cambridge, Mass, [12]/ 11/44”
Mrs. Conant was a friend of my father’s when he attended MIT before and after the war. I think this may be Grace T. Conant, wife of James Bryant Conant, then president of Harvard University. The one photo I can find, taken in 1953 of the Conants, resembles the woman in this photo. Mrs. Conant corresponded with my father during the war, while he was serving with the Canadian Army.” by
“Uncle Raymond Frenkel & Gary Here’s my cousin Gary with his dad. They are probably on the porch of the house on Ardmore that they lived in. I am guessing that this is a Halloween photo. But, then Gary started smoking at quite a young age.”
